Can a Native teach better than a Non-Native?

The answer is: Not always.

There is a misconception that a Native teaches better than a Non-Native.

Many Natives have bad gramar and sometimes they even have bad pronunciation. A lot of Natives are not well read  ("Well educated"). You can confirm this with the people in your own Native country. This happens in every country. Some Natives didn´t go to school. Not all of them are bad teachers, tough. But many of them can´t teach correctly.

There are people who speak and write correctly and there those people who don´t.

There are Natives that don´t know how to teach, they don´t know techniques or tips about teaching.

There are some Non-Natives that teach better than a Native, because they have better grammar and better studies. Some Non-Natives may not have a perfect pronunciation but that doesn´t make them necessarely bad. They could teach you how to write correctly and they could give you a few, or many, good tips.

As an example, people like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme speak good english, but their English pronunciation is not perfect, even though they have been living in the U.S. for most of their lives.

This article is to let you know that is not always good to focus on finding only Natives to teach you a language. You can learn a lot from Non-Natives, too. Have an open mind.
