Like many other people in the world at the beginning of 21st century, my parents met on the internet. My mom was working at the credit agency in the office, which was located in the city center. She was planning for a daily payment calendar when suddenly she received a message on the meeting app called “iseekyou”. It was my dad wanting to have a conversation. At that time, he experienced deep issues with his first marriage and was already on the verge of divorce. He wanted to meet a person with whom he would be soulmates and feel immediate spark. So my future parents talked for a while. My mom as always distinguished herself with her sparkly sense of humor and my dad asked her on a date. My mom, knowing that he was still married didn’t want to meet him but when one week later she left early from work and decided to drink coffee with him just to pass the time, not expecting anything serious. When my dad went out from the advertising booth to meet her at the scheduled time she was speechless. As she told me she fell in love right away. My dad told me that my mom was 100 times prettier than he imagined her and it was love and passion from the first sight. The talked hours straight in the café. The conversation flew easily. They laugh a lot. So that’s how my parents meet each other.

How looks grass in your area after winter? In my region lawns usually delight us the whole year round. Even when snow or frosts arrived, the grass quietly is waiting when it has passed. It can be two or even three weeks under snow, but still green. This winter has changed everything. It was killing not only me for the two months, but my lawn too. Finally after almost three weeks of warm temperatures all snow melted and open to me a heartbreaking sight. My nice emeraldy green lawn turned to a yellow something to which I can’t look without pity. Somewhere it’s still green, although mostly it’s moss, which despite anything delight the eyes by its bright green colour. I hope soon new grass will make its way. However, unfortunately, in my country people often deside to help it by burning the old one. It’s seems a madness in modern world that people can so strongly believe to prejudices. They so sure that grass burning in spring is a right thing to do, that despite mass propaganda and prohibitions, fines and punishments still doing it each year. Every year happens just the same. When the warm dry weather arrived, everywhere around the grass is burning. It kills animals and plants, depletes the soil, turnes to forests fires, poisons the air, can leads to fires of houses and other stuffs. It’s a huge demage to ecosystem and people themself. Almost each grass burning is caused by the people action. Sometimes it happens by chanse, although usually on purpose. The whole country each year is suffocates in smoke, killing everything alive including themselves. I can’t imagine that it can be happening somewhere else in civilized world... Anyway, I hope the spring will find your good and delight with its bright colours and aromas!

My way of keeping the house clean
I’ve always been taught that my house is my castle and it’s better to keep it clean in order to live happy and have clear mind as well as it’s easy to understand a person by the way his home looks like. Whether it’s hideously messy or spotlessly clean. Meanwhile, I will never plot my personal life along a thorough cleaning, for sure. I’m not a neat freak. Today I want to share my point of view and my approach on keeping the house. First of all, I prioritize daily cleaning habits/ I will never wait till dust starts to appear on the surfaces or flying in the air. I regularly dust of the furniture, my workplace, computer and all my mirrors because they get dusty lightning fast. Secondly, I like to create coziness by using fragrances. To my mind if it smells good in the house it seems warm and snugly. Thirdly, I have a schedule for different kinds of cleaning. For example, I change bed linen once a week as well as mop the floor and vacuum it. Also, I take down the curtains and wash them once a season. I clean bathroom weekly, wash my bed blanket once a month. Of course, while I’m living with my parents I will prioritize keeping my room clean because no one will do it for me. I understand perfectly well that I’m willing to do anything with my own space and chose any way of keeping it. I’m glad parents let me be fully responsible for cleanliness in my room and also creative. I love furthering my nest, buying home stuff such as cute pillowcases, bed linen, pictures, organizers etc. I like light colors, which bring calmness and don’t catch my eye. One of my goals is to feel safe in my own room and breath deeply so I air out regularly. I easily can say that the air is so stuffy that I experience problems with breathing and start sneezing. Also it is vital for me to stay in the dark. I hate yellow lighting especially in the late evening so I’m better off any lights I try not to turn them on. I know that some people like listening to the music on the background but I’m not. I feel anxious with any disturbing and unnecessary noises in my home. I like when it’s so quiet that I can hear every rustle. In conclusion I want to add, that I am in the process of creating my own way of living and keeping the house but in my small room so far with my mom doing a huge part of cleaning. My main responsibilities are directly related to my space while I’m living with parents so I believe that only time will clarify what type of housewife I am. Whether I’m a neat freak, tired Tim or whatever. When I will move out, have my own flat and kids who are always damaging things and a husband I will be able to speak about running the house more objectively then.

One classic said: ”There are two troubles in Russia: fools and roads”. This thought is so true, that the expression quickly became a catchphrase. It has recently came to my mind. I just saw how our roads look after winter and understood that it’s really our troubles. For at least two months, as in our case, however usually three-four and sometimes even more months our roads are being subjected to the harsh test of winter. For all this period they’ve been frosting, snowing, sprinkling with sand and reagents, collecting dust and dirt and all these under high traffic. Living in the region with relatively mild winters I managed to forget what the usual spring in Russia is. Oh, how awful it is! It’s so dirty, with bad roads full of cracks and potholes. Everywhere around is dirty melting snow, dust, sand, dirt, shit, rubbish. It seems that people were hoping that the snow will absorb it all forever. What kind of pigs are people must be if they shit under their own feet and what kind of fools they are if they believe that spring won’t return it all back... By spring the best what will be waiting these ”killed roads” is pothole repair, which decides the problem just for a while. And it’s repeating each year, each year the potholes are growing like a snowball. So with such approach it’s not so surprisingly that our roads are bad. Even my garden paths after this hursh winter in some places literally fell into the underworld. But methodical progressive renovation will decide the problem. As Japanese were stubbornly rebuilting their houses, villages, gardens after invasion of the elements, which they often had. They did it calmly, as understood that they just don’t have a choice. So our winters are also our given, it’s what we have and with what we should learn to live, but live good, qualitatively, worthy, without fools and bad roads...

Spring is coming - make way for spring!
The last day of the winter finally has come. It met us with pleasant warm weather, completely spring one. The sun is shining and the air is filled with the sounds of dripping and birds singing. After unusually long winter we’ve got a lot of snow, real snow mountains. To save my garden from flood I’ve been taking away some of snow. It’s already passed a week of plus temperatures, but the snow mostly just has settled a little. Actually it’s decreased almost three times. But there is still indecently a lot of it. Since I’ve been helping it to leave my garden I already got some completely clear spaces, where the grass and the sprouts of first spring flowers can be seen. The birds are also feeling spring. It seems they are going crazy with it, singing loudly, jumping and looking for food everywhere. Black birds decided that I cleared those some spaces from snow exactly for them, as they again started to scatter everything. I’m not much angry with them, as we are all now too happy with spring to be annoyed. The weather in anticyclone is going to be sunny, warm and dry. It will make to melt the snow slower, but save us from strong flood. The snow is melting in a cloudy, damp weather much better than in a sunny one. It is happening because by the sun rays occurs sublimation of snow, which accompanied by energy consumption and cooling of the upper layer, which leads to saving more low temperature. Although I understand that slow melting of snow is better for us, I still can’t wait when all of it will disappear opening for me green grass and first snowdrops.

Farewell with winter
Today in Russia we are celebrating apogee of Maslenitsa (Carnival). Actually these celebrations last the whole week, but the main ones fall on Forgiveness Sunday. This year Maslenitsa got a special meaning in my region and particularly for me. Our winter was incredibly harsh. The temperature was never going into plus almost for two months! Often we got temperatures near -10 C, -20 C and even lower. The white blanket lays on the ground for all this period, its level reached a half of a metre. All this is very unusual for my region, which get used to much softer winters, with the average temperatures near from +5 C to -5 C. In general, winter was desperately fierce this year. So it’s why Maslenitsa, which the main meaning is farewell with winter, got its special meaning for me. The main topic of this week was something like ”Who needs to be burned there to give the way for the spring?”. Now then, as it was yet in pagan times, the effigy of winter should be burnt on the last day of the Maslenitsa week. Also during this whole week we are baking and eating pancakes - hot, yellow circles which symbolises the sun. So it seems I have firmly believed to my ancient Slavic ancestors and decided that it’s the only hope to overthrow the winter. So the whole week I eat pancakes and today for the first time in my life I myself have made the effigy of Maslenitsa and burnt it. It was very funny! Afterwards I sprinkled its ashes onto my garden beds, the same as Slavic sprinkled their fields. It’s symbolic that this week became much warmer and today the temperature finally went into plus! It seems we managed to appease the sun! I’m so happy today and completely drunk by this spring like warm wet air!

Some people can’t live without TV or YouTube, news and social networks. Do you? I just hate it all. My boyfriend is very annoyed when I ask him to turn off TV or watch YouTube in earphones. It so disgusting all these stupid programs, news, advertising, silly videos. I’m fond of silents. Nothing can be better then natural sounds, piece and quiet. My best ”TV” is the sea, it’s so different each time, calming or exciting, but always so lovely and beautiful. In the winter time I also follow ”TV series” which almost each evening shows to me my fireplace. No video or TV series can be more entertaining than my fire one. As it’s well known «There are three things you can watch forever: fire, water, and other people working». I like the most the first two, the third I’d exchange for something like ”pedaling your bike”, ”swimming in the sea” or ”reading a book”. My another kind of TV is birds, which I attracted to my windows by hanging a bird feeder. These friends of mine are so funny, cheerful and hungry. A lot of birds now are hanging out around my apple tree, where I put food for them. They chirp cheerfully and don’t lose heart even in the most severe cold. And I’m glad to see them so close, they help me to believe that the spring soon will arrive. So soon that through this thick white blanket of snow it’s difficult to believe that it really will arrive. But already today almost for the first time in this harsh January and February I wore my windbreaker instead of my warm ski jacket.. Soon, soon it will arrive, I already can feel it flying in the air!

I am the type of person who is obsessed about coziness and aesthetic in the house. I like when everything is neat and clean and nothing is piled high with things. At the same time it’s important for me to save the effort while doing the thorough cleaning because who wants to spend eternity on clearing up the mess. I would rather concentrate on maintaining the cleanliness by tucking things away after using them every other day. My main responsibility about the apartment is to keep my own room well cleaned. I love using fragrance to make my room smell good. I usually buy diffuser with ambra and sandal in it because it’s my favorite aroma. Other diffusers are sickening and strident for me. Also I am responsible for moping the floor in my and my mom’s rooms and in the entrance hall. I hate doing it; therefore, mom had bought one of the best labor saving devices – the robot vacuum cleaner. Now I can come back from university, press the button and have the floor clean without breaking my back with the ordinary vacuum cleaner. When I have an inspiration, I can dust of the furniture but it happens seldom. To conclude I would like to say that I focus on maintaining the cleanliness rather than turning out the flat every single week.

Maslenitsa is coming. In this year it will last from 16th to 22d of February. Maslenitsa is a traditional holiday of the folk calendar of Eastern Slavs which marks the boundary between winter and spring. It’s celebrated a week before the start of Great Lent. It’s analogue of Carnival, Meatfare, Fat Tuesday, which are celebrated by Catholics. Maslenitsa is one of the oldest holiday in Russia. It used to be celebrated on a grand scale and was one of the most favourite holidays. It was the time of mass revelry and drunkenness. However, after the Revolution it lost its former significance. The traditional attributes of Maslenitsa were Maslenitsa effigy, fun, sleigh rides and slides, mass folk festivals and pancakes. Now the only thing which is still left from this holiday is pancakes. Actually even about it not everyone remembers. And before, the each day of the week of Maslenitsa had a name and particular meaning, special traditions and rituals. Monday is meeting. In this day the Maslenitsa effigy was making, finishing all preparations and pancakes started to bake. Tuesday is a flirtation. In this day were bride shows. Youngs were asked to go sledding and eating pancakes.Wednesday is a gourmand. In this day the son-in-law came to his mother-in-law for pancakes. From Thursday all works were finished and the celebration was unfolded in its full width. All kinds of fun were arranged, horse ridings, fist fights, competitions and feasts. Friday is mother-in-law’s evenings. In this day mother-in-low made a return visit and comes to her son-in-low for pancakes. Saturday is sister-in-law’s evenings. In this day young wifes hosted her husband’s relatives. Sunday is farewell or Forgiveness Sunday. In this day all ask each other for forgiveness. Also it this day the effigy of Maslenitsa is burning, which is a culmination of the whole holiday. However, now all this has sunk into oblivion, all has left in the past.

Arctic winter
Harsh January which seems lasted the whole eternity finally has finished. However, to replace it came even more harsh February. At its first night the temperature dropped lower than -20C and today it is going to be close to -30C. It’s madness, something completely incredible. I’ve never seen such temperatures here. The temperature anomaly reaches 30 degrees! The average temperature of January is - 7.5C, it’s lower than our climatic norma for 6.5C. Our seashores turned to the Arctic ones. There is no ”alive” place, everywhere around are snows and ices. They are rise for some metres high and look like real glaciers. Loose ice, hard ice, slush, ice lard all can be seen here. In some places the sea even has frized for some hundreds of metres! For the complete picture the only thing is missing are just polar bears. Each time I come to the seashore my mouth is opening and I can’t believe my eyes. The world seems go crazy, completely surreal landscapes. Back in November within the framework of answering the questions of ”Geographical dictation” I gave a wrong answer to the question about ”Ice lard”, as I’ve never seen or even heard of it. Now I know all states of freezing water, not to my pleasure however. I can’t imagine when all these glaciers will melt. It seems to happen not early than summer arrive. This winter kills me more than any other and it seems it will succeed in this.

Dear diary, Today was not an especially tiring day. In the morning, I worked online, as usual. I met my new students and it was a great pleasure. Our class lasted 4 hours. After the introduction of the course, I asked each student to introduce themselves and they all did. Their skills are quite homogeneous, but some students are better than others, of course. I had pasta with tomato sauce for lunch, then had a black coffee to keep myself active. After clearing the table, I washed the dishes and eventually swept and washed the floor.
